What is the Funivia di Taormina?
The Funivia is Taormina's cable car, connecting the hilltop town centre to the coast at Mazzarò in about two minutes. It's the single most useful piece of infrastructure for visitors, avoiding a long, steep walk or an expensive taxi ride down to the beaches.
Where are the stations?
The upper station sits just below Taormina's town centre, an easy walk from Corso Umberto. The lower station is at Mazzarò, right by the beach and close to Isola Bella.
📍 View on MapsOperating hours and frequency
The Funivia typically runs from around 8:00am with longer hours in summer (often until 1:00am) and shorter winter hours (usually until around 8:00pm). Departures run frequently — usually every 15 minutes or so — but always check current hours before planning your day, since they shift seasonally.
Ticket prices
A one-way ticket costs around €6, with a return around €10. Tickets are purchased at the station and the ride itself takes just a couple of minutes each way.
Why it's worth using
Without the Funivia, reaching the beach means either a long, steep walk down (and an even longer one back up) or paying for a taxi both ways. The cable car is faster than either, and the views over the coast during the short ride are a nice bonus.
